Saudi Arabia is preparing for an austerity eid The result of the varying interpretations of the rule is that Eid falls on a different day depending on what sect, mosque or region you are in. As there are either or days in the Islamic year, the day that Eid falls on in the Gregorian calendar changes annually. Why are Muslims celebrating? Muslims have been fasting and going without food and water from dawn to sunset for an entire month. As the days are longer during the summer, Muslims in the UK are fasting for 19 hours a day.
The end of Ramadan is greeted with the celebration of Eid-al-Fitr.
Eid Al Fitr, the celebrations marking the end of Ramadan, will be on Friday September 10, a Kuwaiti astronomer has said. “The date, based on astronomical calculations, means that Muslims will be this year fasting 30 days,” Dr Saleh Al Ujairi said.
Is Saying Jummah Mubarak Bidah?! Ruling on offering congratulations on Friday? Praise be to Allaah. The Messenger of Allah blessings and peace of Allah be upon him said: Ibn al-Qayyim may Allah have mercy on him said, describing the special virtues of Friday: With regard to the Muslims congratulating one another on the occasions of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, this is prescribed and it is narrated from the Sahaabah may Allah be pleased with them.
This has been discussed previously in the answers to questions no. As for congratulating one another on the occasion of Friday, what seems to us to be the case is that it is not prescribed, because the fact that Friday is an Eid was known to the Sahaabah may Allah be pleased with them , and they were more knowledgeable than us about its virtues, and they were keen to respect it and give it its due, but there is no report to suggest that they used to congratulate one another on Fridays.
And all goodness is in following them may Allah be pleased with them. Shaykh Saalih ibn Fawzaan may Allah preserve him was asked: The early generation did not congratulate one another on Fridays, so we should not introduce anything that they did not do. A similar fatwa was issued by Shaykh Sulaymaan al-Maajid may Allah preserve him , when he said: And Allah knows best.

Basically what Metoer7 said plus a bit more: Eid-ul-Adha ‘Celebration of Sacrifice’ , also known as the Greater Eid, is the second most important festival in the Muslim calendar. It marks the end of the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Makkah Mecca. It takes place on the 10th day of Dhul-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar.
Although only pilgrims to Makkah can celebrate it fully, Muslims elsewhere also mark the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha.

However, the holy month is followed by the observation of a three-day celebration by Muslims: Eid is a three-day celebration which marks the end of the month of fasting for Muslims. Good luck trying to get three days off in a row to celebrate Eid! Many people struggle just to get the one. Eid signals the end of fasting and the beginning of a new Islamic month, Shawwaal. Just like the start of the month of Ramadan, the end is also dependent on the moon.
Muslims follow the lunar calendar and a new Islamic month begins when the new moon is sighted. In a uniquely South African tradition, the maankykers moon-seekers gather at Signal Hill, Three Anchor Bay, Soetwater and other places around Cape Town where there is a clear view of the sky to look for the moon. There are actually two Eids each year – one at the end of Ramadaan, and the other Eid-ul-Adha at the end of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.

However, this Ramadan has been a little different for me, because I have not fasted at all this month. Before leaving for maternity leave, I attended a popular professional development conference. At this conference, I presented on how to support Muslim college students and on the basics of Islam. It was my first time presenting on the latter, but I found it to be more needed than the former; this was apparent when I had a discussion with a well-intended colleague who initiated a prayer space, with an emphasis for Muslims to use for prayer but then arranging chairs in the room with no room to be moved.
When praying, Muslims would need an open space to bow and kneel which is often difficult in a room full of chairs. By engaging in learning more about Islam and Muslims, and in particular about significant holy days and holidays, we can make campus more welcoming and inclusive of Muslim students. There are many aspects that the common interfaith enthusiast may know moreseo than the common student affairs professional, so there is room for growth for most in our field.
But even so with interfaith lovers, Eid al-Fitr, the holiday following Ramadan, can seem a somewhat vague part of the Muslim shenanigans. My personal experiences of celebrating Eid as a child growing up and then comparing it to the experience of Eid in college led me to reflect on how lonely or difficult it can be for one to celebrate without friends, family, or any recognition or support in general.
Growing up, Eid consisted of wearing a special outfit I had been looking forward to wearing all year, having a special breakfast with family in the car as we rushed to the special Eid prayers that took place at the-oh-so-early-hour of around 10am, fighting to find parking, and then hugging all who made eye contact with you. My first Eid as a college student, and the subsequent Eids, were much different than the Eids I had come to know and love.
At least 19 people were shot dead in the Syrian port city of Latakia on Sunday morning as the Assad regime’s aggressive military campaign to quell protests during the holy month of Ramadan continued. Machine guns were fired from at least one ship and several armoured vehicles at the neighbourhood of Ramel, according to local residents and activists.
Gaddafi’s speech on Monday, delivered over a poor quality telephone line and broadcast by state television in audio only, was his first public address since rebel fighters launched their latest offensive, the biggest in months.
It’s no secret that Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, is a people’s person, and Muslims know that firsthand. With Islamophobes rising to power and spreading hate in the West, it’s always refreshing to see a leader supporting Muslims and making them feel welcome, rather than collectively blaming them for the acts committed by radicalized terrorists.
